Marcus Trecothick:
'Coming back to me' |
Marcus Trescothick, the Somerset batsmen, was last night at The Art Centre to talk about his autobiography 'Coming Back to Me', winner of the 2008 William Hill Sports Book of the Year award.
The event, p
resented in association with Swindon Counselling Service, was part of the Swindon Festival of Literature.
Trescothick was joined on stage by sports journalist Peter Hayter, who worked with Marcus in the writing of 'Coming Back to Me.'
The book is a true-life sporting memoir of one of the best batsmen in the game who stunned the cricket world when he prematurely ended his own England career.
The hard-hitting left handed batsman played 76 test matches for England scoring 5825 runs at an average of 43.79 before announing his retirement due to stress related illnesses.
This soul-baring account opens the way to a better understanding of the pressures experienced not only by modern-day professional sportsmen but maybe by many more of us.
